Dess Lodge is a detached Victorian baronial gatehouse in Dess, near Aboyne, with a character all its own. Traditional furnishings, pitch pine finishes, tartan flooring and antiques set the scene, while the open fire invites you to settle in after a day exploring Royal Deeside.
The cottage sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms and has 2 bathrooms. Upstairs, one bedroom has a 4 ft 6 in double bed and an en-suite shower room; the other has 2 single beds, each 3 ft wide. The second bathroom has a bath with a shower attachment. A sofa bed in the living room provides flexible sleeping space.
Prepare meals in the kitchen-diner, equipped with an oven, hob, microwave and fridge-freezer. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer, and bed linen and towels are provided. Gardens surround the house on 3 sides, with a raised lawn, sitting-out area and garden furniture for time outdoors.
A river is approximately 240 m away in a straight line. For days out, you might explore Banchory and Ballater or visit Crathes and Balmoral castles. Shops are about 2 miles away and a pub is about 3 miles away.
There are 4 steps to the entrance. The property has open, steep, spiral or narrow stairs, and there is a drop and a bank in the garden. Private parking is available for 1 car, with additional private parking also available. Pets and smoking are not permitted. Check-in is from 15:00 to 23:59, and check-out is by 10:00.

Dess Lodge is a fabulous Scottish property, very spacious and well equipped.
It is very near a main road but the traffic noise did not bother us.
The property could benefit from an outside light that is motion sensitive as the access to the property is concealed and there is no street lighting.

Very charming lodge, full of baronial Scottish character. Very warm and comfortable. Great walking on the doorstep. Lots to see locally. Many castles and stately homes nearby.

Had a great week. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The area is beautiful, if you enjoy the outdoors it’s definitely the place for you.
