Located in one of the oldest boroughs of Montalcino, Domus Antiqua is a dwelling dating back to the fifteenth century, characterized by an austere stone façade typical of medieval buildings.
In this land, the Val d'Orcia, UNESCO World Heritage Site, the relationship with nature is decisive: the sweetness of the landscape and the Tuscan hills with soft tones that recall the backgrounds of the Leonardesque paintings and the languid frescos of Sodoma present in the nearby Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, could not but have an impact on this ancient residence where the representation of an atmosphere combining tradition and color was deliberately sought. The three levels house offers on the ground floor a charming room characterized by a stone arch that was an ancient gateway to the village: today the room. next to a small garden, it was assigned to a library embellished with volumes mainly of classical, Byzantine, and medieval art history.
All the books are cataloged, but freely consultable: in this environment, history and suggestions revive and their voices, including the silence, are given to the guest in search of time. On the first floor a room with a fireplace and exposed beams, expertly furnished with antique furniture and rare prints of mythological representations, welcomes guests with its atmosphere of tranquility which is the result of a harmonious balance of all furnishing accessories.
The light shades of the walls and the upholstery that are associated with the colors of the old paving tiles contribute to making the visitor's stay pleasant.
Also on the first floor, there is a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room for six people with television, a double bedroom with air conditioning and a bathroom with a shower in white Carrara marble and black marble. The second floor is about 80 square meters.
It consists of a double bedroom, a second bedroom with a queen bed, a study, a sitting room, a bathroom with a white Carrara marble shower, and lastly a surprise: an exclusive terrace of 30 sqm, the element more appreciated by guests: with an incomparable 180-degree view of the Tuscan countryside and the thirteenth-century tower of the City, the look sweeps free on this uncontaminated land and meets in the background the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, the cities of Siena, Pienza, Montepulciano and the summit of Mount Amiata.
The double bedroom, equipped with air conditioning, is furnished with antique furniture that combines with light fabrics in taupe colors.
The spirit that animates the home reflects the philosophy of the territory expressed in the canons of sobriety, harmoniousness, and the research of aesthetics in all its forms and declinations.
